Note that this A2591 iPad Air 5th Gen, sold only in mainland China, is compatible with 5G NR, specifically bands n1, n2, n3, n5, n7, n8, n12, n20, n25, n28, n29, n30, n38, n40, n41, n48, n66, n71, n77, n78, and n79. However, it does not support 5G NR mmWave. It also does not support 4G/LTE bands 11 (1500 MHz) and 21 (1500 MHz). This model lacks support for eSIM, although it is designed to function worldwide.
The iPad Air 5th Gen (Wi-Fi + Cellular – China) features a fully-laminated, antireflective 10.9″ LED-backlit 2360×1640 “Liquid Retina” display (264 ppi, 500 nits) surrounded by a thin black bezel and and packed in a thin case with rounded corners and flat sides. The back is one of five metallic color options — dark “Space Gray”, a warm gray “Starlight”, Pink, Purple, or Blue.
This iPad Air is powered by a 3.2 GHz Apple M1 processor with 8 cores (4 performance cores and 4 efficiency cores), an 8-core GPU, and a 16-core Neural Engine. It has 8 GB of RAM and is equipped with either 64 GB or 256 GB of flash storage. It also has “Touch ID” authentication sensor built into the top button as well as support for the Apple Pencil 2nd Gen (A2051, MU8F2AM/A, US$129) that conveniently charges via a magnetic connection on the side of the device. It has a front-mounted 12 megapixel “Ultra Wide” “FaceTime HD” camera that shoots up to 1080p video — complete with support for the clever “Center Stage” technology that automatically pans and zooms to keep subjects in frame — and a rear-mounted 12 megapixel “Wide” camera that shoots up to 4K video.
In addition to a USB-C port, other connectivity includes 5G, 802.11ax (Wi-Fi 6) with HT80 with MIMO capability, and Bluetooth 5.0. It has dual microphones and stereo speakers. Battery life is reportedly 10 hours of “surfing the web on Wi-Fi or watching video” or 9 hours “surfing the web using cellular data.”
Compared to its predecessor, the iPad Air 5th Gen (Wi-Fi + Cellular – China) — and its Wi-Fi only sibling — have faster processors, improved connectivity, and better cameras. This model adds 5G networking, too.
