Please note that this A2379 iPad Pro 12.9-Inch (5th Gen) is compatible with 5G NR, specifically bands n1, n2, n3, n5, n7, n8, n12, n20, n25, n28, n38, n40, n41, n66, n71, n77, n78, and n79, and 5G NR mmWave — bands n260 and n261 — at least in the United States. Although Apple’s official marketing information originally also used this model number across Europe, EveryMac.com immediately questioned whether or not this was correct and through a combination of hands-on inspection and reader reports, it was determined that this model actually was not sold in Europe. Apple subsequently corrected at least some of its information, as well. It is believed that this model was sold in the United States (and possibly Mexico, India, Brazil, and the UAE). Please get in touch if you bought an 12.9″ iPad Pro outside of the United States and it has the A2379 model number on the back. Thank you.
The iPad Pro 12.9-Inch (Wi-Fi + Cellular – 5th Gen) features a fully-laminated, antireflective 12.9″ mini-LED backlit 2732×2048 “Liquid Retina XDR” display (2D backlighting system, 264 ppi, 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio) surrounded by a thin black bezel and packed in a slim case with rounded corners and flat sides. The back is offered in either silver or a darker “Space Gray” color.
This iPad Pro is powered by a 3.2 GHz Apple M1 processor with 8 cores (4 performance cores and 4 efficiency cores), an 8-core GPU and a 16-core Neural Engine. If configured with 128 GB, 256 GB, or 512 GB of storage, it is equipped with 8 GB of onboard RAM. If it is configured with 1 TB or 2 TB of storage, it is equipped with 16 GB of onboard RAM.
Other notable new features include a Thunderbolt / USB 4 port and a new 12 megapixel Ultra Wide front camera with a “Center Stage” feature that automatically pans and zooms to keep subjects in frame, and 5G support, as well.
Like previous recent iPad Pro models, the iPad Pro 12.9″ (5th Gen) models also support LiDAR, “Face ID” authentication, external keyboards and trackpads, and the Apple Pencil 2nd Gen (A2051, MU8F2AM/A, US$129) that charges via a magnetic connection on the side of the device. Along with the aforementioned front camera, it has a dual rear camera “system” with a 12 megapixel wide angle and 10 megapixel ultra-wide angle lens.
In addition to Thunderbolt / USB 4, other connectivity for this model includes 5G, dual-band 802.11ax (Wi-Fi 6) with HT80 with MIMO capability and Bluetooth 5.0. It has five microphones and a four speaker system, too.
The battery life of this iPad Pro model is reportedly 10 hours “surfing the web on Wi-Fi or watching video” or 9 hours “surfing the web using cellular data.” This model has a software-based eSIM that can be used to switch between some carriers as well as a nano SIM slot to use “traditional” SIM cards.
Compared to its predecessor, the iPad Pro 12.9-Inch (Wi-Fi + Cellular – 5th Gen) — and its Wi-Fi only sibling — are basically the same physical size, but have a much better display, much more powerful internals, better connectivity (Thunderbolt), and a significantly better front camera, as well.
