Please note that this A1976 Apple Watch Series 4 (GPS+Cellular, United States/Canada, 44 mm) model is compatible with LTE bands 2 (1900 MHz), 4 (AWS), 5 (850 MHz), 12 (700 MHz), 13 (700c MHz), 17 (700b MHz), 18 (800 MHz), 19 (800 MHz), 25 (1900 MHz), 26 (800 MHz), and 41 (TD 2500) as well as UMTS 800 MHz, 1700 MHz, and 1900 MHz in the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico (which last time we checked was part of the US). It is not intended to work in other countries.
The Apple Watch Series 4 models look similar to earlier models, but have larger displays, more advanced input capabilities, more powerful internals, and more advanced sensors (most notably a new accelerometer and gyroscope that can detect falls and an electrical heart sensor).
All cellular-capable Apple Watch Series 4 models, like this one, are capable of being connected to the Internet without a “tethered” iPhone, but it still requires an iPhone 6 or newer running iOS 12 or later for most functionality.
All Apple Watch Series 4 devices are controlled with a Digital Crown with haptic feedback and a Force Touch capable display. This particular Apple Watch Series 4, a cellular-capable model in the 44 mm size, features a 368×448 LTPO OLED screen. Configurations with aluminum cases use “strengthened, lightweight Ion-X glass” and those with stainless steel cases use a “Sapphire crystal” covering over the display. All models use an “all ceramic and sapphire crystal back” that connects to the charger.
Battery life is an Apple estimated “up to 18 hours” overall, but more precisely, “up to 2 hours” of talk time connected to an iPhone, “over 1 hour” connected to LTE, “up to 10 hours” of audio playback from Apple Watch storage, “up to 7 hours” of streaming from a music playlist with LTE, “up to 5 hours” streaming live radio with LTE, “up to 10 hours” of working out indoors, “up to 6 hours” of working out outdoors with GPS, “up to 5 hours” of working out outdoors with GPS and LTE, and “up to 4 hours” of working out outdoors with streaming audio, GPS, and LTE.
There are 12 different options for this particular Apple Watch Series 4 model, six with aluminum cases and six with stainless steel. Options include a silver colored aluminum case with a white fluoroelastomer rubber “Sport Band” or “Seashell” gray fabric “Sport Loop;” a gold colored aluminum case with a “Pink Sand” fluoroelastomer rubber “Sport Band” or “Pink Sand” fabric “Sport Loop”; or a dark “Space Gray” colored aluminum case and a black fluoroelastomer rubber “Sport Band” (pictured, left) or black fabric “Sport Loop.” Stainless steel cases are offered in nearly the same colors as the aluminum options (the “Space Gray” option is replaced by a darker “Space Black”) and nearly the same fluoroelastomer rubber “Sport Band” options (the gold colored stainless steel case is paired with a slightly more subdued beige “Stone” colored fluoroelastomer rubber “Sport Band”). Stainless steel cases are not offered with the fabric “Sport Loop,” but instead are upgraded to the classy metal “Milanese” loop in matching silver colored metal (pictured, right), gold colored metal, or black metal.
